If you have lots of old t-shirts lying around, but aren't sure what to do with them, have them transformed into t-shirt curtains instead!
If you have lots of old t-shirts laying around and aren't sure what to do with them, why not try turning them into t-shirt curtains? This is a great, budget friendly way to spruce up your home and reduce waste at the same time. Every year, lots of fabric and clothes are thrown away and wasted, which is terrible for the planet. Turning your old t-shirts into curtains can help reduce your environmental impact while creating something totally unique. If this sounds like a great idea, but you don't have the sewing experience or equipment necessary to create t-shirt curtains, you don't need to worry! You don't have to be an expert at sewing the make them either, as we can cover all the hard work for you. We take your old t-shirts and transform them into something new. Just choose your t-shirts and send them to us, and your part is done!
Equipment
When making t-shirt curtains, we use a lot of different equipment, as your curtains need to be of the highest quality. Often, the t-shirts that are used have some kind of sentimental value, so we want to make sure that your t-shirt curtains are exactly what you want and are something that you will cherish for years to come!
Material
You can use a range of materials that you have at home, but t-shirt curtains are best made from t-shirts and sweatshirt materials. This helps to keep the light out and makes the curtains more hardwearing. You can choose to add another layer of fabric to the back of your curtains to make them thicker but we think the fleece backing is all you need. We can also make curtains out of other types of fabric at an extra cost.
We also attach loops that allow the t-shirt curtains to be hung from your curtain rod, and loops fit the majority of curtain rods.
What to do
When you want us to sew drop cloth curtains from your old t-shirts, there are a couple of things we need you to do to help us out and ensure that the finished product is exactly what you had in mind.
Measure the area you want the curtains to cover. Our t-shirt curtains come in a pair and cover any standard-sized window, so you need to make sure your window is the right size. For this, we require 24 t-shirt panels, and these can be 12", 14", or 16". Generally, one t-shirt provides two panels but you might want to include just one panel/image from each shirt. The size of your panels depends on the size of the graphics on your t-shirts.
If your graphics are 11.5" or less, you should choose 12" panels and provide us with at least 13". For graphics that are larger than 11.5" you should order 14" panels and send us at least 15". If you choose the 16" panel option, we need at least 17" from each panel. All these inch measurements are square, as that is the shape of each panel.
You will also need to separate the front and back of each shirt before you send them to us, or we can do this for an extra cost. If you would like to design your own curtains, you can lay out your panels and include an image of the design you have created so that this can be recreated.
Why choose t-shirt curtains?
Sewing t-shirt curtains is a great way to personalize rooms in your house, such as your bedroom, living or dining room. It can be a great use of old clothes and prevent them from going to waste. Lots of fabric and clothing go to waste every year, which has a negative impact on the planet. By recycling your old t-shirts into t-shirt curtains, you can help reduce your environmental impact. Furthermore, if you love this idea but don't need new curtains, why not consider t-shirt blankets instead that you can use in bedrooms or living rooms to add a personal touch to your home décor.
The process is pretty similar to when you sew drop cloth curtains, as you send your old t-shirts to us and we turn them into something new. Again, there is the option to design your own by including an image of your panels laid out in your desired arrangement. You can also add a personalized message that will be embroidered on the fleece backing. There is also the option to have a double-sided t-shirt blanket, and they come in various sizes.
T-shirt curtains are a brilliant idea for diy projects that are cost-effective, personal, and eco-friendly. They can also make a great present or gift for a loved one and can help to preserve sentimental t-shirts even if they don't get worn anymore. T-shirt curtains are versatile and can be used in many different rooms and even used as room dividers or wall hangings. If you have plenty of old t-shirts lying around and want to give them a new life, or want to create a unique piece of home décor with old memories, then t-shirt curtains could be the perfect solution for you!
